Well. That says it all. Does Indian theatre really reflect contemporary urban sensibilities ? Mahesh Dattani says no. But that begs the question as to why. How can we bring the lived experience of our cities into theater, music and dance ? We dont care what the form is. Tight rope walking ? Soliloquay? Street play ? Show us what you got. The only condition is that it must reveal an urban sensibility. It would be lovely if it is about Hyderabad. If it is about everyday life in cities. If it is about remembering and celebrating and envisioning city life. And it would be lovely if we can move beyond the idea that there is no urban theatre in India.
